Portals are based in part on the recall system, while a player can recall to a place they have marked a portal allows a number of people to access that specific location simply by entering the portal.
There are two types of portal:
Permanent
Permanent portals are ones that will never fade, they are ever lasting and generally one way, clicking on a portal will send you to the portals destination but there may not be a portal to return you from whence you came.
Temporary
Temporary portals are generally ones made by players using the Portal Mastery skill, player portals typically last no longer than five minutes and are intended to last just long enough to let a small group of people use them.
