At the bottom of the screen is the Status and Chat area, this is where all game related messages are displayed. Whenever you do something in the game the result of that action will be displayed here, from talking to NPCs to looting items from corpses. Also if you have turned chat on this area will provide you with a means to talk to other players in the game or in the chat room.
